Are you the sort of person who finds it hard to make a decision in the ice-cream parlour? If so, Enrivonmental Expert may not be the site for you. With hundreds of carbon monoxide detectors to choose from, each with its own benefits and drawbacks, Environmental-Expert.com offers one of the most developed catalogues we've seen. It's more likely going to appeal to an expert who knows what they're doing, when it comes to using gas detection devices, but that's not to say that it doesn't also offer plenty of choice for the everyday folk.
As you'll see by following our link to the website, there are over 700 carbon monoxide detectors to choose from. So, where do you start? Well this is something of a problem because the site seems to be designed for people who have a good sense of what they're doing. We're thinking industry professionals, scientists and gas enthusiasts (they exist, right?!). This makes the site quite difficult to navigate through at times, particularly because there aren't quite enough filters to find precisely what you need. That said, at least the site does offer a few filter options to help you search for products and services, and you are able to skip through pages without having to view every single item on sale.
Searching aside, the site is fairly well constructed and offers plenty of information on each carbon monoxide monitoring device. You can see a photo of the device, its manufacturer, its distributor and precise details including the concentration range it can detect, and its testing frequency. You'll soon realise that many of these devices are set up for scientific testing as they can detect a much greater range of concentrations (measured in ppm – parts per million) and their displays of these results are much more precise. You're probably going to want to bypass these products unless you're really keen to regularly check the parts per million of CO in your air. Very few seem to be designed for home use to alert you to potential dangerous CO levels, and if this is what you're aiming for (with a 24 hour monitoring service to boot) then you may want to head elsewhere or check out Environmental-Expert's “services” section. This is an extensive list of service providers who will monitor your CO levels for you and contact you when they fluctuate. These may offer a home service but it's worth carefully investigating each one before making any kind of purchase.
What will be of use to anyone, not just gas geeks, is the free information on the site. You can access a variety of articles, hundreds of news articles and even a few free books. A lot of this might go over your head unless you have a chemistry degree, but some of it is interesting and useful. Meanwhile, customer service is fairly non-existent on this site, although being able to view comments and check out the free information can be just as handy. Still, a forum, FAQ and some kind of contact email address would be most welcome.
Environmental-expert.com offers a great wealth of devices for the gas detection aficionado, with highly accurate devices that are well suited to industrial and scientific areas. However finding anything that's suitable could be a hard slog and we'd generally recommend going elsewhere if you're a home owner looking to keep your family safe from carbon monoxide.
